    Job Description

Dungarvin is seeking a Senior Payroll Administrator to lead high-volume payroll operations with a focus on accuracy, speed, and consistency. In this role, you will serve as a key payroll expert, ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time while maintaining compliance, supporting reporting needs, and protecting system integrity across multiple states.

You will partner closely with HR, Accounting, and business leaders to resolve payroll issues, strengthen processes, and enhance the overall employee experience. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys hands-on payroll execution while also contributing to continuous improvement in a mission-driven environment.

This is not purely transactional payroll work. It requires strong ownership of payroll accuracy, a solid understanding of compliance requirements, and the ability to identify, investigate, and resolve root-cause issues in collaboration with cross-functional partners.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO:

    • Process multi-state bi-weekly payroll, including off-cycle checks, reversals, and stop payments.
    • Audit payroll and reconcile timekeeping data to ensure accuracy of earnings, hours, and deductions.
    • Maintain payroll system integrity, including employee updates, job changes, and pay adjustments.
    • Serve as the primary contact for employee payroll inquiries and issue resolution.
    • Manage garnishments, accruals, and payroll reporting, including required external filings.
    • Support payroll tax compliance, year-end activities, and related reporting requirements.
    • Partner with HR and Accounting to identify and implement payroll process improvements and maintain supporting documentation.

    Qualifications

    MUST HAVE:

    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Payroll Expertise:  4+ years of payroll experience in a high-volume environment, with responsibility for end-to-end payroll processing and multi-state or multi-jurisdiction tax compliance.
    • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of payroll tax laws across multiple states, wage and hour regulations, and federal, state, and local labor and tax compliance requirements, including payroll cycles and reporting standards.
    • Payroll & Timekeeping Systems: Experience with payroll and HRIS platforms such as Workday, UKG/UltiPro (Ultimate Software), ADP, Paychex, and QuickBooks, as well as Kronos and other automated payroll and timekeeping systems.
    • Microsoft 365 & Excel Expertise: Skilled in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.

    NICE TO HAVE:

    • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of payroll tax laws across multiple states, wage and hour regulations, and federal, state, and local labor and tax compliance requirements, including payroll cycles and reporting standards.
    • Accounting Systems: Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics and general accounting practices, including reconciliations and reporting.
    • Professional certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), or other relevant payroll/HR credentials.

    Additional Information

SKILLS CRUCIAL TO SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE:

    • Attention to Detail in High-Volume Environments: Maintains accuracy while managing large payroll volumes and recurring deadlines, identifying and preventing errors.
    • Adaptability & Problem-Solving: Thrives in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities, system changes, and acquisition-related complexity. Quickly identifies and resolves payroll discrepancies, system issues, and inefficiencies.
    • Collaboration & Teamwork: Strong team-first mindset, supporting colleagues during peak payroll cycles and partnering across payroll, HR, and Accounting to resolve issues and maintain alignment.
    • Communication & Stakeholder Management: Communicates clearly and professionally with employees, supervisors, and cross-functional partners, explaining payroll matters and responding to inquiries in a way that builds trust and understanding.
    • Organization, Time Management & Reliability: Manages multiple priorities and deadlines effectively, ensuring all payroll responsibilities are completed accurately and consistently.
    • Technical Skills & Reporting: Quickly learns payroll systems and tools, runs reports, and uses data to support payroll processing and validation.
    • Root Cause Thinking & Process Improvement: Identifies root causes of payroll issues and contributes ideas to improve processes, reduce risk, and increase efficiency.
    • Professionalism & Integrity: Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive employee information with professionalism and discretion.

    WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS ROLE:

You'll be joining a tenured, highly supportive team that genuinely works together, especially during high-volume payroll cycles. The environment is collaborative, steady, and built on trust. People step in for each other, communicate openly, and take pride in getting the work done right.

This is also a strong opportunity to be part of a team navigating growth and system evolution, including the transition to Workday. If you enjoy being part of a team that is improving how work gets done and want exposure to change without chaos, this role offers that balance.
