Mental Health Specialist
Pay: $14.47/Hour
Location: Hennepin County

Available positions in the Maple Grove area.

Job Responsibilities:
The Mental Health Specialist I (MHS I) is responsible for working cooperatively with the supervisor, residential program coordinator and other staff in developing, implementing and evaluating individual care, positive behavioral support needs and programming. The MHS I staff is responsible for providing direct services and supports to each person served according to his/ her needs, including assisting in maintaining a clean, safe living environment; meal preparation; transportation; and supervising, training and assisting the individuals in every aspect of their lives while promoting a person-centered approach.

MHS I work in our residential settings working with persons served who have behaviors that can be managed with programming. Persons served in these locations may have alone time and can integrate in the community but require additional focus to ensure community integration and safety of persons served.

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate, basic computer skills, preferably 2 years experience in the delivery of mental health services or related conditions, to recipients with mental illness such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorder, schizoaffective disorder, severe depression, dissociative identity disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, anxiety and other related conditions; a background in corrections, chemical dependency, brain injuries and de-escalation techniques; and/or a college degree in a Human Service or behavioral science field.
  • Need the ability to understand and implement behavior support plans, treatment plans, functional assessments, individualized support plans and person-centered plans.
  • Must be physically fit and be able to stand, squat, bend or walk for long periods of time. Ability to lift 50 lbs is necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to read, write and speak in English clearly.
  • Ability to make sound judgments when given guidance and priorities; ability to work as a team member to maintain consistency and quality services; and ability to exchange support, constructive criticism and ideas with other staff members.
