Special Note:

The Acute Behavioral Services Manager (ABSM) is responsible for providing leadership and management of Dungarvin's Acute Behavior Services. Under the supervision of the director, the ABSM focuses on achieving quality programs for individuals with significant behavioral and mental health needs. This position supervises a team of mental health program directors that has oversight responsibilities for the program staff.


  • The ABSM must possess a minimum of a four-year degree in a behavioral science field and 6000 hours of experience supervising programs for people with behavioral and serious persistent mental health needs or related conditions.
  • Must have experience developing individualized behavior support plans that identify specific proactive and, if necessary, reactive intervention strategies.
  • Experience supervising in diverse settings, including multiple sites/programs with an emphasis on problem solving and crisis management is preferred, depending on experience.
  • Experience leading team meetings in which DHS, mental health organizations, county personnel and department heads, law enforcement officials and/ or other community organizations are involved.
  • Project management experienced preferred.
  • Ability to provide training to both subordinates and other members of the organization in a variety of topics including, but not limited to, behavioral supports, coaching and developing of staff, crisis intervention, data collection and analysis, and other trainings developed by either the organization, self or outside supports.
  • Experience working with both adolescents and adults preferred.
  • Requires vehicle with acceptable driving record.
  • ABSM must also possess competency related to behavioral health services in areas related to:
    • Effective crisis intervention and treatment plans.
    • Reduction/elimination strategies that promote least restrictive approved techniques.
    • Ability to analyze data in effective manner, as well as the ability to transfer data into graphs and other visual aids to use in trainings or team meetings by use of Excel.
    • Demonstrated expertise with populations with mental health and cognitive impairments.
    • Selecting intervention strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
    • Ethical considerations related to mental and behavioral health services.
  • The ABSM must meet the requirements of a qualified mental retardation professional, based on four-year degree in a related field, experience and abilities.
  • Experience in developing and implementing individual programs, budget implementation and supervising others is required.
  • Must have good decision-making, time management and communication skills.
  • Must be responsible, mature and flexible.
  • Must processes good communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Must be able to work as part of a collaborative team in a variety of settings.
