Job Responsibilities:
The Mental Health Specialist (MHS) is responsible for working cooperatively with the supervisor and other staff in developing, implementing and evaluating individual care, positive behavioral support needs and programming. This individual should follow up directly with the supervisor on any program or personnel issues within the home. He or she should follow up with the coordinator or supervisor in areas related to household, medical or maintenance needs in the home.

The Mental Health Specialist is responsible for providing direct services and supports to each person served according to his/her needs, including assisting in maintaining a clean, safe living environment, meal preparation, and supervising, training and assisting the individuals in every aspect of their lives.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Preferably 2 years of experience in the delivery of mental health services or related conditions to recipients with mental illness, such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorder, schizoaffective disorder, severe depression, dissociative identity disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, anxiety and other related conditions; or a background in corrections, chemical dependency, brain injuries, de-escalation techniques and/or college degree in a human service or behavioral science field.
  • Need the ability to understand and implement behavior support plans, treatment plans, functional assessments, individualized support plans and person-centered plans.
  • Must be physically fit and be able to stand, squat, bend or walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs is necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to read, write and speak English clearly.
  • Ability to make sound judgments when given guidance and priorities; ability to work as a team member to maintain consistency and quality services; and ability to exchange support, constructive criticism and ideas with other staff members.
