Dungarvin is hiring DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS to support people with developmental disabilities in our PARTIAL DAY PROGRAM in NORWALK, CALIFORNIA.

This Partial Day Program is located in Norwalk, California. The people we serve are referred to us by the Harbor Regional Center, a nonprofit private corporation that contracts with the State of California Department of Developmental Services to provide or coordinate services and supports for people with developmental disabilities. We develop opportunities for stimulating, productive, purposeful and meaningful experiences for the people we serve, as well as our dedicated team of employees. We offer activities on-site, as well as outings and participation in local community events.

POSITIONS: Part-time, entry-level Direct Support Professional positions are available. All positions are weekday shifts.

Job duties include, but are not limited to, assisting individuals in increasing their basic life skills, providing direct care and support with daily activities such as mealtime and personal care, assisting individuals with planning and achieving goals, implementing positive behavior support plans, driving the company van or small bus to activities in the community, and following protocols and procedures to maintain a healthy and safe environment.

Dungarvin offers starting wages of $14.20 per hour with increases after 90 days and subsequent incremental increases thereafter. Employees are paid for time spent in training and professional development. Training includes, but is not limited to, CPR, First Aid, Lifting and Transferring, OSHA, HIPAA, etc.

Employees must have a sincere desire to support individuals with developmental disabilities, such as intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, autism and epilepsy. We expect our employees to embrace and adhere to the mission of respecting and responding to the choices of people with developmental disabilities. Experience in this (or related) field is preferred.

Employees must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have basic computer knowledge.
  • Have the physical ability to lift over 50 lbs frequently and over 100 lbs occasionally.
  • Have the ability to make sound judgments when given guidance and priorities.
  • Have the ability to work as a team member.
  • Have the ability to receive instruction and implement policies and procedures as trained.
  • With training, recognize physical changes of the individuals served, communicate with others, and respond accordingly.


  • Current, valid driver's license and an acceptable driving history (driver's license check is paid for by Dungarvin).
  • Fingerprint clearance by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) (paid for by Dungarvin).
  • Physician's clearance and a TB test clearance (paid for by Dungarvin).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two professional references (non-family).
