Dungarvin is seeking to fill the position of Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support the continuous enrichment of individuals with developmental disabilities in our ADULT RESIDENTIAL FACILITY FOR PERSONS WITH SPECIAL HEALTHCARE NEEDS in Los Angeles, CA.

In our program/home, we strive to provide each person with the education, assistance, role modeling, supervision and encouragement they need to develop interests, skills, abilities and their independence. We are a national provider of services to people with developmental disabilities.

The Adult Residential Facility is located in Westchester (Los Angeles, CA). The people we serve are referred to us by the Westside Regional Center and Harbor Regional Center, nonprofit private corporations that contract with the State of California Department of Developmental Services to provide or coordinate services, supports and appropriate living arrangements for people with developmental disabilities. We develop opportunities for stimulating, productive, purposeful and meaningful experiences for the people we serve, as well as our dedicated team of employees. We provide activities at home, as well as outings and participation in local community events.

SCOPE:
The Direct Support Professional is responsible for providing direct services to individuals, including assisting in maintaining a clean, safe environment; meal assistance; supervision; training; transportation; community integration; and assisting our persons served with various aspects of their lives. The DSP is responsible to the Program Director (Administrator).

Direct Suppoer Professional Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Respect individual rights and ensure they are met.
  • Increase individual's self-esteem.
  • Ensure hygiene needs are met and that individuals are appropriately dressed at all times.
  • Ensure active involvement by individuals in all aspects of their program.
  • Implement and document on each person's program; implement behavior programs as well.
  • Remain alert to behavior/physical changes and notify the Administrator when necessary.
  • Assist persons served with personal contacts.
  • Initiate individual involvement in activities; ensure persons served are offered choices.
  • Initiate and attend all required trainings.
  • Assist in staff development of peers.
  • Promote positive teamwork with other staff of the home and the organization.
  • Communicate with support services openly and effectively.
  • Provide persons served with daily needed healthcare, using appropriate resources.
  • Administer and handle medication according to policy and regulations.
  • Ensure that nutritional needs of persons served are met.
  • Maintain systems established by the Administrator and coordinator, assisting in the daily implementation of schedules related to upkeep and general cleanliness of the home.
  • Assist in maintaining the company vehicle and a safe environment.
  • Ensure compliance with emergency procedure requirements.

Education/Experience:
Direct Support Professionals must have high school diploma or GED and will be required to complete DSP I and II. At least one year experience working with persons with developmental disabilities is required.

DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The DSP must be able to pass a background check by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), must have a current and valid driver's license, must pass physical/TB test, and must follow policies and procedures of the company related to mandated reporting and confidentiality.

WAGES:
$13.50/hour on average with incremental increases.
